When it comes to search engine optimization rules, one thing is certain-there are hundreds of them out there. In fact, it seems like everybody that does SEO will insist on using a different set of SEO rules. When push comes to shove, it's probably just best to scan them all and then create your own set of guidelines to go by. With that said, here are 5 simple search engine optimization rules that work every time.


1: Keep It Clean. Clean, clear code and site design will always help your site's SEO ambitions. Think of it like this-when there's less clutter for the search engines to have to dig through before they get to the "meat" of your site, then they'll pay closer attention to the good stuff. And of course, clean sites have significant human visitor benefits too.

2: White Hat Only. Don't try to trick, scam, or connive your way into better search results than your site actually deserves. Instead, use a white hat approach to playing by the search engines' guidelines and striving to over-deliver in every way possible to your visitors. White hat only is a great approach to lasting search engine optimization.

3: Balance Your Links. One of the more important search engine optimization rules to pay attention to, getting your link profile just right is vital to your overall success. What does this mean, though? Well, instead of forcing backlinks from sketchy sites, instead try to attract real, relevant, top-quality links from A-list sites (this is achievable through content that over-delivers). Also, don't build links too fast. And don't forget to link out from your site where appropriate as well.

4: Content Is King. Visitors really only come to your website for one reason...your content. They find your site because your content matches their search query. Thus, the more helpful, relevant niche content you can deliver, the more you'll show up in the search engines for a larger variety of your intended search terms. Keep your content production always active (and again, over-deliver).

5: Know What Your Visitors Want. Providing content and information that fulfills a vacancy on the web is a great way to draw in more visitors organically. It's just basic supply and demand in essence. Produce quality content based on keyword phrases that are searched for often but have very little quality information available on the web. Give your visitors the information they want and you'll do great with SEO.
